Murray Illness FAQ’s as of 11/03/2021:
Q: Where can I take my child to get tested for COVID? You have a few options locally: This week at the Clarke County Hospital they are only having their clinic open 8-4 this week for COVID testing. If you are symptomatic you have to be seen on the clinic side for a test and it costs $50, you will not see a provider. If you are asymptomatic you need to go to the north parking lot and the lab will do the test and run it through insurance.
Leon CHCSI does the COVID rapid test for $50, you will not see a provider. Their number to schedule is 641-446-2383.
Decatur County Public Health also has home based saliva test kits. They are free of charge. Families can call us and we can arrange pick up for them. 641-342-3724.
Q: My child has been exposed to COVID, what should we do?
This year we are unable to require quarantine or isolation, but we encourage families to monitor for symptoms and get their children tested, and stay home if possible. Please also remember that with COVID it can take 2-14 days after exposure for someone to start showing symptoms. If your child has COVID they need to stay home for 10 days from symptom onset or positive test. The first day of symptoms/positive test is day 0.
Q: If my child has a fever or has been vomiting or having diarrhea, when can they return to school? Your child needs to stay home from school until they are 24 hours free of the symptoms without the use of medication like Tylenol, Ibuprofen, or Immodium. Q: What symptoms should I be on the lookout for? Please be monitoring for the following: fever/chills, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat, congestion, runny nose, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, strep throat symptoms, loss of taste or sense of smell. Please also keep in mind that if a cold is keeping your child awake at night or they are constantly coughing, it might be best to keep them home until it improves.
